My name is John Walker. I have 30 years of business (non-practice of law), financial, and legal experience gained through my involvement in general business, real estate, and corporate finance transactions. During the course of my career, I have participated actively in transactions whose value, in the aggregate, exceed an estimated $4 billion.
I actively practiced law from 1976 through 1992. I left the practice of law at the end of 1992 and have not practiced since then. Beginning in 1993 and continuing through the current time, I have been engaged actively in "non-practice of law" businesses, both as a senior executive and as a management consultant.
I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in Political Science in 1972. After a brief stint in the military, I graduated in 1976 from the Southern Methodist University (SMU) School of Law with a J.D. In 1991, I went back to school at and subsequently graduated in 1993 from the SMU Cox School of Business with a M.B.A.
My blog is a personal blog. I intend to, and shall, use it as a forum where I can comment from time to time on issues relating to the business of practicing law that interest me and may be of interest to others. I'm here to have fun, and, from time to time, maybe educate either myself or someone else.
SINCE 1992, I HAVE NOT RENDERED LEGAL ADVICE AND WILL CONTINUE NOT TO DO SO; AND, SPECIFICALLY, I'M NOT RENDERING LEGAL ADVICE ON THIS BLOG. IF YOU NEED OR ARE LOOKING FOR LEGAL ADVICE, YOU SHOULD HIRE AN ATTORNEY. Please read both my comment policy and my disclaimers, links to which are posted on the home page of my blog.
My interests include my family, reading (primarily fiction books involving international intrigue; books about value investing and successful value investors; and books about management strategy and competition), sports (particularly hockey, football, basketball, and baseball), movies, music, and computers.
